FAIRY godmothers and giant killing teenagers usually only make an appearance towards the end of the year, when pantomime gaudiness works as an antidote to the dreary weather.
So popular are the magical tales with audiences, however, that you can’t blame one producer for introducing the show to a different part of the year.
Southport Theatre’s Easter Panto, Jack and the Beanstalk, opens today starring reality TV stars Anthony Kavanagh, Stephanie McMichael and Alison Crawford. It has been produced by Lee Kelly, choreographer of the Empire Theatre’s Cinderella, featuring Cilla Black.
Big Brother 9 contestant Stephanie, from Calderstones, says: “I’m really looking forward to the show. It’s going to be great fun.
“All my family will be coming to watch it – my mum loves things like this.”
Anthony, known to many as Kavana, has had a series of Top 10 hits, including I Can Make You Feel Good and Crazy Chance. He partnered Crawford in ITV’s Grease is the Word.
JACK and the Beanstalk, by LHK Productions, is at Southport Arts Centre from April 8-11.
