Stephanie also became interested in the group Spirit of Shankly, a union formed in 2008 with the ultimate aim of running LFC.
“I’m not sure what the solution is,” she says. “In some ways, I don’t know how realistic the idea of fans running their club is. Some people say they want a return to traditional football but you have to be careful what you wish for. If it was run by fans, would they have been able to afford Fernando Torres, for example?”
The series of 20 photographs includes images of fans waving flags in the stands and others peering through shop windows to catch a glimpse of their favourite players on TV.
Stephanie, who moved to Liverpool in 2007, says her background in radio journalism influenced the exhibition.
“I tried to tell a story and I did it in the same way as I would a radio documentary, so there’s a script that runs through it and the set of images fits into it,” she explains.
“I wanted to raise questions about the power of the fan, in a commercialised environment, in a way that invites people to consider the issues themselves.”
FAN Power? is at the View 2 Gallery, Mathew St, Liverpool, until Monday.
