LIVERPOOL author Anthony Quinn has been shortlisted for a prestigious book award.
The Desmond Elliott Prize is given for the best first novel published in the UK each year as chosen by a panel of industry judges.
Quinn’s The Rescue Man, a wartime saga about the loss of Liverpool’s historic architecture in the Blitz, is up against Blackmoor by Edward Hogan and A Girl Made of Dust by Nathalie Abi-Ezzi.
Candida Lycett Green, one of the judges, said: “The result is a shortlist of three haunting books, all gripping in different ways while dealing with the complications of love and life in extremis.”
William Hill bookmakers has given The Rescue Man 2/1 odds to win the prize, with 5/4 for Blackmoor and 7/4 for A Girl Made of Dust.
The winner of the £10,000 prize will be announced on June 24.
