St Luke’s Church to host Ghost Stories: A Night Opera

ITS sunset at St Lukes Church and the usually deserted building is throbbing with life. A crowd of people stand transfixed, listening to the haunting music engulfing the ruined chapel.

Rolling arpeggios mingle with the sweet sound of a human voice singing a wordless song.

This will be the scene in July, when musician Neil Campbell brings his production, Ghost Stories: A Night Opera, to the Liverpool city centre church for one night only.

I want it to be a journey through that night, says the guitarist.

As people arrive there will be something for them to listen to and also as they leave, with our 50-minute performance in between.

It wont be a typical concert but more of an emotional experience.

Campbells acoustic guitar-playing will accompany singer Anne Taft, while a recorded soundscape of wind and other effects will help evoke a mysterious atmosphere.

Campbell released the composition on CD last October and it has received acclaim from music critics.
