CAPITAL of Culture year’s successful Art Markets are to return for 2009.
Held on the Piazza at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, they provide an opportunity for creative people in Merseyside to show, sell and promote their work directly to the public. The first market will take place on Sunday, from 11am-4pm, with three more planned for July 19, August 16 and September 20.
The events are organised by Open Culture, the organisation set up by Phil Redmond to give the public a say in Liverpool’s Capital of Culture celebrations.
"Growing up in Liverpool, I remember the paintings hanging on the Bluecoat railings and street artists displaying their work on pavements across the city," he said.
"I am delighted the Cathedral is supporting Open Culture again by encouraging people to get involved in displaying their own work."
A range of arts and crafts will be on offer including paintings, photography, jewellery, clothing and sculpture.
