THEATRE: Following last year’s critically acclaimed Tartuffe, Liverpool’s Poet Laureate, Roger McGough, dips his magic quill again by adapting another classic Moliere comedy. This time he’s tackled The Hypochondriac – featuring Clive Francis as Argan, above – the play Moliere was performing the night he died. ART: The Grosvenor Museum’s eighth Open Art Exhibition showcases local creative talent from hundreds of entries in its open competition. A wide range of techniques and materials, subjects and moods have gone into a diverse collection of works. Grosvenor Museum, Chester, until July 1, 01244 402 008.

THEATRE: If The Shoe Fits, winner of the Ray Kingsley Award for comedy, centres on the antics of the staff at Twinkle Toes shoe shop, who are on a staff night out.
