AN INDEPENDENT film-maker has found a novel way of casting for his next film – by auctioning roles on Ebay.
Douglas Byrne, whose play, Snowbound, has just completed a successful run at the Carlton Little Theatre, in Birkenhead, is aiming to make his next film, The Temp, at the end of the year.
The new film, a comedy, follows the adventures of a 40-something career “temp” who works for several companies at once.
He appears to have found the perfect system until a much younger temp starts work, making him question his view on life and his values.
It follows the play Snowbound, which Douglas also plans to turn into a film next year, with filming planned as being divided between Wirral and North Wales.
Douglas, 39, and originally from Scotland, has lived in Wirral for the last 10 years.
In between working on his own production, he has also worked with schools, helping students learn about film-making techniques
He said: “With the auction, we are offering ordinary people and budding actors looking for their chance to be in a film, to ‘buy a role’ on Ebay.
“This ranges from walk-on parts to being co-stars.
“Not only will they have a chance to be in a film, but they can learn from the professionals both in front and behind the camera.
“It’s a chance for people to become involved in a film who wouldn’t ordinarily be able to.”
