Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy _460
POET Laureate Carol Ann Duffy has been signed up to appear at this year’s Shell Chester Literature Festival.
The Liverpool University graduate will be giving a workshop for primary schools, as well as hosting an evening event featuring readings of her work.
Former National Theatre director Richard Eyre will be promoting his book Talking Theatre, which features interviews with stars of the screen and stage Judi Dench, Vanessa Redgrave, Ian McKellen and Liam Neeson.
Red Riding and The Damned United author David Peace will also appear, following the successful TV show and film productions of his work earlier this year.
“This is truly a festival with something to offer everyone, across ages, backgrounds and interests,” says Tracy Lynn, Chester Festivals director.
“It will take its audience on a journey of discovery and revelation, through discussion, debates, talks and workshops.”
There are more than 60 events in the programme, ranging from evening author events with well known faces, new writers lunchtime sessions, educational events and even circus workshops for children. Chris Packham, fresh from BBC Spring Watch, will also take part in the festival, which runs from October 3-18.
His event will focus on wildlife photography taken during his many expeditions.
Renowned QC Michael Mansfield is also signed up and will be talking about his book, Memoirs of a Radical Lawyer.
