Comic Daliso Chaponda gives preview ahead of Edinburgh Festival gig

THE man dubbed “the world’s only Malawian comedian” is performing a Liverpool preview of the show he is taking to the Edinburgh Festival.

Daliso Chaponda left Malawi as a young man and starting forging his comedy career in Canada in 2001, with his acclaimed one-man show, Feed the Black Man.

He pleaded to extend his Canadian visa with his 2004 Don’t Let Them Deport Me Comedy Show but, although it was a sell- out, his visa was not extended so he created one final show in 2005 – They’re Deporting Him Anyway.

Now based in Warrington, Chaponda will be appearing at the Capital of Comedy at the Slaughterhouse tonight with Westerners, Calm Down.

In addition to stand-up comedy, he has been commended for his writing skills, producing two plays and publishing fiction in numerous magazines.

Further preview shows are being held in Leicester, Derby and Didsbury, Manchester.
