Wirral’s Summer Serenade concerts are fast selling out

TICKETS are on sale for the final 13 concerts in Wirral’s 2009 Summer Serenade programme.

Most of the events held so far have been sell-outs.

This Sunday’s show features Marcel Becker on double bass and violinist Noel Anderson performing Bottesini’s Grande Duo concertante with string quartet accompaniment.

Musical director Nick Byrne says: “This year we’ve tried to broaden the appeal of the series with an even larger number of professional musicians performing a huge variety of solo and ensemble concerts from Šsacred to baroque, string quartet to Gershwin, andŠChopinŠto jazz.”

The series, which runs every Sunday until September 27, also includes two special concerts in memory of the late Brendan McCormack, who founded Summer Serenade 23 years ago.

On July 19, guitarists and friends will play musical tributes to him and, on August 23, Brendan’s Tivoli Trio will be reformed to play a selection of his classical arrangements.

All concerts start at 3pm and take place at the Williamson Art Gallery or, during August, in Birkenhead Priory. They are followed by always an opportunity to meet the performers informally for aŠpost-concert discussion over free refreshments.

Audience members are asked to make a donation to cover costs.
