By the time Guetta broke out of his homeland in 2002 with the single Just a Little More Love, consolidating his position with dancefloor anthems like The World is Mine and Love Don’t Let Me Go he and Cathy were being touted as the Posh and Becks of Paris, an image helped no end by Guetta’s appointment as the face of L’Oreal.
Now with his parties among the biggest in Ibiza and his name known by everyone under the age of 30 in the UK, Guetta has his eye on a nice slice of American pie. And he looks perfectly poised to be the DJ who takes dance music to the masses Stateside.
“In America I always felt that dance music was so underrated,” he explains.
“I would go there and my gigs would be totally packed (he recently played to more than 100,000 people in Los Angeles) and then I would speak to radio people and they would say no there is no (dance) scene in America.
“I think the media were just waiting for a brand that they know, so the fact that I have been working with big names like the Black Eyed Peas gives them confidence in the music.”
Looks like the world could yet really be his.
David Guetta plays Creamfields at Daresbury tomorrow. The event is now sold out.
