The film tells the story of 11-year-old Bud – a sad and lonely young boy growing up in the wreckage of post-war Liverpool - who finds solace in his visits to the cinema.
Saturday night’s offering is an evening which is dedicated to classic shorts and feature films.
And the weekend’s main event – On The Waterfront – will be screened at 8pm, after 30 minutes featuring other movie material.
Also, from 12 noon to 5pm, on each of the three days of the festival, The Big mobile art space will provide an alternative to the conventional gallery setting by showing a series of short videos.
As well as the action on screen, there will be street theatre and other entertainment taking place throughout the whole weekend.
The Film on The Waterfront event is the final of three mini-festivals dedicated to culture which have been held in the city during the summer months. It follows weekends themed around music and art which together drew around 60,000 visitors to the Pier Head.
