Sketches by Beatles legends John Lennon and Paul McCartney go on display at London’s Scream gallery

SKETCHES by John Lennon and Paul McCartney are among celebrity art works going on display at a London gallery this month.

Two drawings made by Lennon will be exhibited alongside pieces by McCartney, created while he was a student at the Liverpool Institute in the 1950s.

They include a sketch showing Elvis Presley and a picture of two young women and a man in sunglasses inscribed with the words “Nurse Young”.

A self-portrait of Frank Sinatra, created after his high-profile break-up with actress Ava Gardner and two previously unseen paintings by Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain are also among the 30-plus works by musical icons. On display at the Scream gallery, in West London, the exhibition has been curated by Jamie and Tyrone Wood, sons of the Rolling Stone’s Ronnie Wood.

McCartney has been involved in several art shows before, including an exhibition of more than 50 works at the Walker in 2002. The Art of Paul McCartney received many notable visitors, including the Capital of Culture judging panel and the Queen, who described the paintings as “colourful”.
