Bold Street shop windows transformed into works of art

BOLD Street shop windows are being given a make-over as part of the Abandon Normal Devices festival.

Artist Nina Edge is offering to transform them into temporary art works to create a colourful street gallery.

Edge, who is based at FACT, as part of the Cultural Leadership Programme, decorated the Liverpool arts centre’s cafe this summer by drawing giant flowers on its windows.

She says: “This is an inspiring way to bring FACT closer to its neighbours and to use culture to support trade in a difficult economic environment.

“The AND festival is linking up with Bold Street Festival to promote the unique cultural offer in the Ropewalks area.” Running from September 23-27, AND is a celebration of new cinema and digital culture taking place at venues across the city.

Highlights include a large-scale video projection by Polish artist Kryzsztof Wodiczko and a talk and exhibition by political artists the Yes Men.

It coincides with the Bold Street Festival on Saturday.

Utility, Zen, Coffee Union, Voodou, Red Lotus, Smiffys and Take 2 have already signed up to have their windows turned into works of art.

Bold Street businesses wanting a free drawing should contact Nina Edge at FACT on 0151 707 4410.
