“There's no harm in me,” he explained often.
Dame Edna in sparkly form took issue with people's dress sense, embarrassed a late couple, insulted people's homes and addressed one front row scruff as "little homeless person".
This was classic stuff.
It was not PC – Sir Les described his secretary as “office equipment” – and certainly not for the faint-hearted or badly-dressed.
But it is for this boundary-pushing humour that we love Sir Les and Dame Edna.
His musical offerings were just a little too twee despite the hard work of both orchestra, choir and Mr Davis.
But Dame Edna looked as glorious as ever and, as usual, she did throw lots of gladioli into the audience.
