PORTRAITS and charcoals by the artist described as a “shrewd painter” by Mersey Poet Adrian Henri is going on display at the Liverpool Academy of Arts next week.
Phil Pyros was a well-known figure on the city’s art scene in the 1970s before emigrating to Australia.
The late Henri said of his work: “His paintings are the realistic transcriptions of the visible world, close toned with delicate harmonies.
“He paints shrewdly observed portraits of friends.”
Also opening at the Academy of Arts on Tuesday is Six in the City, an exhibition of recent work by local artists Eddie Scott Jones, Deborah Butler, Mary Campbell, Irene Jones, Martin Jones and Brian Roe, including his work in pastels, Sunset at River Alt Estuary, above.
Both shows are on display at the Seel Street gallery until November 6.
