Ralph McTell to headline Wirral International Guitar Festival

SINGER/songwriter Ralph McTell will perform at the International Guitar Festival in Wirral.

The Kent-born guitarist, whose most famous song Streets of London has been covered more than 200 times, will play at the Pacific Road Arts Centre, Birkenhead, on Friday.

One of Britain's most respected and best-loved singer/ songwriters, his career dates back to the mid-1960s folk boom when, influenced by American bluesmen such as Big Bill Broonzy and the Reverend Gary Davies, he gained a reputation as a skilled finger-style guitarist.

Artists such as Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie inspired McTell to write his own songs.

His writing has earned him the Ivor Novello Award and a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award for songwriting.

Tickets £16 (£14 concs), www.bestguitarfest.com
