Peter Kay - Liverpool tickets on sale

Who is he? Bolton-born comedy superstar.

What is he famous for? His phenomenal live stand-up shows, although he also has the Midas touch on TV, too, creating hits including Phoenix Nights and Max & Paddy’s Road to Nowhere. He topped the charts in 2005 with Is This The Way to Amarillo, raising money for Comic Relief.

Distinguishing features? He looks like a cheeky overgrown schoolboy, especially sliding on his knees across the stage like an excited five-year-old. The Bolton accent’s pretty distinctive, too.

Career high? Selling out a record 20 nights of his new The Tour That Doesn’t Tour at the MEN Arena. Massive demand has seen him now add 21 new dates across seven cities in April, 2010, November, 2010 and April, 2011.

Career low? Before he made his name he was sacked from jobs in Netto, a video shop, Bolton’s Top Rank Bingo and the Bolton Octagon where he reportedly told Corrie star Phil Middlemiss (Des Barnes) that he couldn’t come in wearing white jeans.

Significant others? Married to Susan, whom he met at the cinema where he worked. They went on a first date to Blackburn Ice Arena, but spent the bulk of the evening in the Casualty Department of Blackburn Royal Infirmary after Peter slipped and broke his arm.

Not to be confused with? Fellow Boltonian Vernon Kay. He’s much taller.

He says? “Garlic Bread? Garlic . . . bread? Garlic? And bread? Am I hearing you right?”

Interesting fact? Peter is quoted as saying that one of his first TV appearances came by accident. If you pause the video at the right moment on a recording of Telethon 90 at Liverpool's Albert Dock, you can see him in the background!

PETER KAY plays the Echo Arena, April 22-24, 2011. Tickets go on sale at 11am today.
