TWO drawings currently hanging in Tate Liverpool are to be thrown into a giant plastic bin, in the name of art.
Michael Landy, whose exhibition Joyous Machine is being shown at the Albert Dock Gallery, is discarding hundreds of drawings, paintings and sculptures.
They will include work by Sir Peter Blake, who designed
The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper album cover, and Michael Craig Martin, who curated part of Tate Liverpool’s This is Sculpture exhibition.
Most of the pieces will be donated by members of the public and will be placed in the bin when it goes on display at the South London gallery, in Peckham, from the end of January.
Landy seems to have a taste for destruction.
In 2001, he destroyed all his 7,226 personal belongings, including odd socks, David Bowie singles and his Saab 900 car, for the art installation, Break Down.
JOYOUS Machines, at Tate Liverpool, runs until January 10.
