Liverpool Cathedral launches adopt a pipe scheme for Christmas

LIVERPOOL Cathedral is raising funds for the restoration of its organ by asking people to adopt a pipe for Christmas.

A sum of £900,000 is needed to complete the work on the UK’s largest instrument of its kind.

There is no upper limit to the size of donation, but it costs a minimum of £2 to adopt a 2ft pipe, £4 for a 4ft pipe and so on up to £32 for a 32ft pipe.

The Bombarde Organ stops are £25 per pipe, while the Tuba Magna, Trompette Militaire and 64ft Resultant Bass are £50 each.

Each adoptive parent will receive a certificate and will have their name recorded next to that of their pipe in a special commemorative book.

With 10,268 pipes, the cathedral’s Grand Organ is among the largest operational organs in the world.

Henry Willis began its construction in 1923 and it was completed in 1926.
