LIVERPOOL writer Lizzie Nunnery’s new play, The Swallowing Dark, has been chosen as one of the 10 finalists for the prestigious Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.
Celebrating their 32nd year, the awards are given annually in recognition of “women from around the world who have written works of outstanding quality for the English-speaking theatre”.
The prize ceremony will be held in New York in March, where the winner will receive $20,000.
Nunnery’s first full- length play, Intemperance, was produced at the Everyman and shortlisted for the Meyer Whitworth Award. She also worked on the Amnesty International award-winning show Unprotected, which was launched at the Liverpool theatre in 2006 and ultimately broadcast on Radio 4.
Her debut short film, Monkey Love, for which she also composed the soundtrack, premiered at the Everyman’s Everyword festival last June.
