ARTIST Sonia Boyce is very much in demand in Liverpool at the moment.
One of her 1987 works is on display at Tate Liverpool as part of the Albert Dock gallery’s Afro Modern exhibition, and she returns to The Bluecoat after a gap of 25 years to show two installations and curate a selection of others’ work.
Alongside Like Love – Part One, a video installation created from the London-based artist’s residency at the Meriton School for Young Parents in Bristol, she will be premiering her new work Like Love – Part Two.
The piece is made from a series of sessions with Blue Room, the Bluecoat’s arts service for adults with learning difficulties.
“We just began,” Boyce says of the artistic process.
“I didn’t even know what would come out of it.
“They were really open to having discussions and drawing, dancing and singing.”
