Boyzone star Ronan Keating comes to Liverpool Empire

Who is he? Blonde 32-year-old Irish singer and sometime member of boyband Boyzone.

What is he famous for? Being spotted at 16 and invited to joined Boyzone by manager Louis Walsh, who was looking to create an Irish version of Take That.

Distinguishing features? A lovely lilting Irish accent, slightly ruddy complexion and an unfortunate taste in hairstyles.

Career high? Boyzone went on to sell more than 20m records and have six UK number one singles. To date, Ronan has released five solo albums, three of which went straight to number one. He is listed in the Guinness Book Of Records for being the only artist ever to have 30 consecutive top 10 singles in the UK chart, beating Elvis Presley. Ronan has duetted with Elton John at Madison Square Garden, in New York, and has sung for the Pope twice. He also performed for Prince Charles at the Prince's Trust 30th birthday.

Career low? In October, 2009, Ronan’s Boyzone bandmate, Stephen Gately, died while on holiday in Spain, just a year after they had completed a highly successful reunion tour.

Significant others? Ronan married Irish model Yvonne Connolly on April 30, 1998, on Nevis Island. They have three children – son Jack, who is 10, eight-year-old daughter Marie, and daughter Ali, who is four.

Not to be confused with Ronan O’Gara, who is an Irish rugby player and the only other famous person called Ronan.

He says “When fans come up to me and say they want to sleep with me, I just laugh and say ‘Nah, you don't.’ It's embarrassing.”

Interesting fact Ronan still has Stephen Gately’s number in his mobile phone next to the other three Boyzone members, because he says he can’t bring himself to erase it.

RONAN KEATING plays the Liverpool Empire on February 28, supported by Liz McClarnon.
