85th Southport Palette Club will be movingtemporary new home at Bootle Town Hall

THE 85th Southport Palette Club will be moving to a temporary new venue at Bootle Town Hall tomorrow while the town’s Atkinson Art Gallery is closed for re-development.

Its new exhibition will be held in the ballroom, from March 3-23.

Nicola Jones, Sefton’s museums and galleries officer, says : “It may be in a new home temporarily, but it is still the fantastic showcase of local artists that it always has been.

“It is a great opportunity to purchase high quality art from local artists at affordable prices.”

The Atkinson Gallery, Southport Arts Centre and Southport Library are being transformed into a £15.3m Cultural Centre.

Set to re-open in 2013, it will also feature three new museum galleries, a craft gallery for high-quality local work, a local history centre and an extended cafe and bar.

It will also provide space for community groups to use for their own activities. The redevelopment is being funded by Sefton Council, the Commission for Architecture and Built Environment, the Northwest Development Agency and a number of other partners.

The existing buildings, on Lord Street, are around 140 years old and have been in need of some repair for some time.
