THE Royal Court Liverpool Trust is calling for public contributions towards the cost of its revamped theatre, following the announcement Liverpool City Council has granted it a 30-year lease.
This is the longest lease in four decades of the building’s history – since the 1970s there have been a series of operators on short term contracts.
The registered charity, set up in 2008 to renovate the Grade ll-listed theatre, will now start efforts to raise the more than £10.6m funding need to carry out the renovation work.
Elizabeth Christie, chair of the Royal Court Trust, says: “We are determined to succeed in our fundraising efforts and ensure the future of this wonderful building which has been at the heart of Liverpool’s cultural offer for such a long time.”
As well as applying for funding from sources including Heritage Lottery, trust funds and foundations and private companies, the Royal Court has added a £1 levy to all ticket prices.
