The performance will be Trevor’s third “improvathon”, having done his first in 2008 in memory of English writer, theatre director, and improviser Ken Campbell, and a second at LIPA last year. He said: “It was Ken’s idea to bring ‘improvathons’ to the UK, so we decided to honour his memory and this is the continuation of that, to keep his legacy alive. Ken used to do them quite a bit, so he brought the spirit over to the UK because he said it was better than scripted theatre.
“For the audience, it’s a very unusual experience. If you watch just one two-hour show you can feel tired, so imagine watching 17. The audience go through the emotions of it all, just as much as the actors do; they laugh with us and cry with us.”
The company has been improvising in Liverpool for the last two years and hold fortnightly shows at Mello Mello, on Parr Street.
“We’re still learning and growing as a company,” Trevor added “The majority of us are professional actors, but we have amateurs from all walks of life. Our cake is definitely marbled.”
IMPROVATHON takes place at the Kazimier, in Wolstenholme Square.
