Bluecoat Display Centre launches Shanghai exhibition to mark World Expo 2010

AN EXHIBITION of ceramics, jewellery and other crafts will celebrate Liverpool’s links with Shanghai and its place in the World Expo 2010.

The Bluecoat Display centre is exploring contemporary influences of Chinese culture that are present in the work of artists currently working in the UK.

Featured artists include Li-Sheng Cheng, who creates functional silverware and jewellery ranging from textured rings, earrings and bangles to unusual shaped dishes and beakers.

She is inspired by the ideas and thoughts that “everything has a life, which should to be cherished and respected” inherited from her Chinese upbringing.

The work of Ken Eastman, who uses original pattern manuscripts from the Derby ceramics factory archives, will also be on display.

SHANGHAI Exposure is at the Bluecoat Display centre, College Lane, Liverpool, from May 1 to June 19.
