REVIEW: The Ballad of Juniper Davy and Sonny Lumiere at Metal, Edge Hill Station, Liverpool

A COLLABORATION between harpist Rebecca Sharp and artist Elizabeth Willow, this promenade performance is a tribute to the creative ingenuity of its inventors.

Based around a piece of Sharp’s poetry, telling the love story of unusual characters Juniper Davy (Laura Powers-del Arco) and Sonny Lumiere (Adam Millington), it weaves her words into a specially composed score performed by four musicians.

Exploring Metal’s Liverpool base, in Edge Hill Station, brings a sense of fun to the proceedings as you are guided from one red brick building to another via an underpass under a track.

Willow’s set design is intriguing and Sharp’s words take you to an otherwordly place, but the actors lacked expression – speaking the phrases too carefully to express their depth and colour.
