LEADING choreographer Wayne MacGregor brings his new work, Entity, to the Liverpool Playhouse this week.
A cast of 10 dancers will be accompanied by soaring beats and strings in an hour-long trip through a soundscape created by Coldplay and Massive Attack collaborator Jon Hopkins and award- winning composer Joby Talbot.
McGregor was appointed resident choreographer of The Royal Ballet in December, 2006, the first in 16 years and the only one to ever come from the world of contemporary dance.
His most recent work for the company, Infra, received the prestigious 2009 Benois de la Dance award and the 2009 South Bank Show award, joint with Entity – which also received the Movimentos Dance Prize 2009.
Talbot’s varied career has seen him pen music for projects as varied as the RLPO and The League of Gentlemen.
He has recently been commissioned by The Royal Ballet to score its new production of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
Entity has been described as “a staggering blend of athletic bodies, lights, technology and film which confirms McGregor’s place at the cutting edge of contemporary culture”.
Since its premiere in 2008, the show has been seen in sold-out theatres in more than 14 countries, including the Venice and Lyon Biennales. Its performances in Liverpool are part of the city’s ongoing Leap! festival of dance.
ENTITY is at the Liverpool Playhouse on Friday and Saturday.
