Why Sex And The City hasn’t lost its magic: film review

Sex and the City

IT HAS been two years since we last caught up with Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda in Upper East Side Manhattan.

So what happened to the girls after they got their happy ending?

Real Sex And The City fans may be worried this long-awaited sequel will disappoint.

But fear not ladies, forget any damning reviews you may have read, this is a must for anyone who loves the Manolo-wearing fashionistas, the hugely popular series and the 2008 hit film.

From the moment the Sex And The City title music plays, the excitement begins because it means the much-loved ladies are back on the big screen!

We’ve shared a lot with these characters, they’ve even helped some of us through bad times and break-ups, and, let’s face it, Sex And The City is a big deal to women.

OK, so there isn’t some ground-breaking plot here, but this was never meant to be anything more than a witty and entertaining film for women to enjoy with their friends and celebrate sisterhood – and, in that sense, Sex And The City 2 delivers.

The flashbacks of the girls and their fashion faux pas, including Carrie’s (Parker) unruly perm, and the camp civil partnership scene, featuring Liza Minnelli, that kicks off the film, may be silly but they create plenty of laugh-out-loud funny moments that continue for the 2½-hour film.

The action in the movie takes place largely in Abu Dhabi, with Morocco doubling for the Arab state as the four friends escape their beloved New York on an all- expenses paid girlie holiday that Samantha Jones (Cattrall) has organised.
