Pauline Daniels will play Shirley Valentine for Wirral Autistic Society fundraiser

PAULINE DANIELS is to give a unique performance of Willy Russell’s Shirley Valentine as part of the celebrations of the opening of Wirral Autistic Society’s much-needed respite centre.

All profits from the show, staged at Birkenhead’s Pacific Road, will go towards the cost of building the £1.3m centre.

Daniels enjoyed a successful run as the bored Liverpool housewife who runs away to Greece at the Royal Court last year.

Both she and the show’s writer Willy Russell have waived their fees and the venue is provided at cost.

She says: “It’s just so perfectly written. Every time you do it it’s as important as when it was written.”

Wirral Autistic’s Society’s six-bedroom respite centre will accept its first clients next month, giving families a break from years of round the clock caring.

JULY 7-8, tickets £12.50 (£10.50 concs) from Rick Myers 0151 482 3145, 07887 631218 or rick.myers@wirral.autistic.org
