Liverpool Everyman Theatre spirit to be celebrated before renovation in winter programme

As well as the much anticipated Antony and Cleopatra, starring LIverpool-born Sex and the City actress Kim Cattrall, the autumn/winter will see two major in-house productions.

The famous Everyman pantomime will return with Sleeping Beauty before being relocated to the Playhouse for two years during the Hope Street theatre’s reconstruction.

The Playhouse will host the newly-commissioned show No Wise Men, a comedy directed by the theatres’ artistic director Gemma Bodinetz and written by Peepolykus’ Steven Canny and John Nicholson. Click here for Peepolykus's website.

Set in Liverpool, it features Victorians, time travel and a giant reindeer.

Nicholson said: "We wanted to create something original while drawing on all the stories people know about Christmas."

Touring work includes the return of celebrated theatre company Northern Broadsides for the third time this year with The Game, Harold Brighouse’s comedy about two footballing families. Click here for Northern Broadsides website.

Jeff Merrifield’s one-man portrait of the Blockhead’s lead singer, Hit Me! The Life and Rhymes of Ian Drury, will be stopping off at the Everyman, as will character John Shuttleworth with his new show A Man With No More Rolls.

The world premiere of internationally renowned Phoenix Dance Company’s Declarations will take place at the Playhouse in September.

Liverpool’s disability and deaf arts festival DaDaFest will launch at the Williamson Square theatre in November with the UK premiere of dance work Gimp.
