Welsh National Opera to bring The Magic Flute, Fidelio and Ariadne auf Naxos to the Liverpool Empire Theatre

WELSH National Opera is bringing three shows to the Liverpool Empire this autumn.

Its Eternal Light series aims to demonstrate that Austrian and German opera is just as rich, varied and entertaining as the Italian repertoire.

Welsh tenor Dennis O’Neill will perform in Beethoven’s only opera, Fidelio, as Florestan, a political prisoner unjustly arrested and imprisoned, whose wife Leonore played by Lisa Milne, sets out to rescue him disguised as a man.

Strauss’ boisterous backstage comedy, Ariadne auf Naxos, will see the returns of Sarah Connolly and Eric Roberts. The third show is director Dominic Cooke’s colourful production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute.

WNO visits the Empire on November 3-6, 0844 847 2525.
