EVERY now and again, a musician comes along that gets the industry talking.
Bright, bold, and essentially different, they stand apart from their contemporaries, with a sound all of their own.
Delta Maid is that musician.
The 25-year-old from Wavertree is taking the music world by storm.
Packing a hipflask full of Bessie Smith, Patsy Cline and soul-studded country blues, the talented singer/ songwriter is here to take your breath away.
“Some people assume that the Liverpool music scene is all four boys in a guitar band,” laughs the former St Julie’s pupil.
“But there’s so much more to it than that. I’ve been gigging on my own for years around the city, and people have always been lovely with me.
“There are a lot of lads in bands, but there’s a lot more out there too.”
Delta began her love affair with American roots music after listening to her parents’ record collection.
“My dad is really into blues and old style country, so I grew up with those tunes from being tiny – Bonnie Raitt and Taj Mahal to Stevie Ray Vaughan and BB King, the lot,” she says.
