Looking for ways to occupy the family during the school holidays? Laura Davis offers some suggestions

EVEN if summer ends up being a wash out there is plenty to keep the children entertained. Here are just some of the events and activities taking place at Merseyside’s cultural venues during the school holidays.

Theatre

FAIRYTALES are being brought to life for under-nines at the Playhouse this summer. Each Thursday at 1.30pm and 4pm until August 26, Liverpool actor Eithne Browne will be performing a 30-minute reading starting with Dick Whittington on August 5. It’s a free event but places are limited to 30 per session. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Book on 0151 709 4776.

THE Empire presents a cast of talented young people from the local area, working with professions to create a production of Fame. Rehearsals are already under way for the show, which follows the lives of a group of students at New York’s High School for the Performing Arts. August 5-6, tickets £13 (family £44), 0844 847 2525.

THE world’s number one secret agent, Danger Mouse, is back with his first theatre show touring to Theatre Royal, St Helens, on Saturday August 21. Details on 01744 756 000.

Following last year’s sell out success, Willy Russell’s Our Day Out The Musical is back at the Royal Court with a long run of shows from Aug 27 to October 9. Tickets £10 to £33.50, 0870 787 1866.
