HOLLYWOOD actor and former Edge Hill student Jonathan Pryce is returning to the university’s Ormskirk campus to mark its 125th anniversary.
He will host a question and answer session in front of an audience on Tuesday, October 19, talking about his journey from trainee teacher to award-winning international star of stage and screen.
While at Edge Hill, the Welsh-born actor was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
After graduation, he joined the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool.
Dr John Cater, Edge Hill’s vice-chancellor, says: “It is an absolute privilege to welcome Jonathan back to Edge Hill University.
“All of us have watched the career of our most famous alumnus with the greatest of interest, and we are delighted that a few decades on he is honouring us with his presence in our 125th anniversary year.”
As well as enjoying a critically acclaimed stage career – Pryce won a Tony Award for his portrayal of The Engineer in Miss Saigon – Pryce has starred in big-budget Hollywood productions including Evita, Tomorrow Never Dies and the Pirates of the Caribbean.
Last year, he returned to the Everyman to perform the part of Davies in Harold Pinter’s The Caretaker, which went on to London.
