Katy Perry profile

Who is she? Cheeky pop poppet, a genuine California Gurl, born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (she took the stage name Katy Perry because actress Kate Hudson got there first).

What is she famous for? She kissed a girl and liked it (only she didn’t really), going to number one all over the globe and then proved she was no one-hit wonder by notching up another five hit singles and two big-selling albums.

Distinguishing features? She’s like a cross between 1950s pin-up Bettie Page and Barbara Windsor, full of as many naughty double entendres as hit hooks.

Career high? If we’re being biased, then it was presenting the EMAs at the ECHO Arena in 2008. There’s also been a Grammy nomination for I Kissed A Girl, which went three times platinum, selling more than 3m.

Career low? Being banned from Seseme Street last month. She recorded a version of her hit, Hot n Cold, with Elmo, but four days before the airing, Sesame Workshop announced they had decided not to air the segment on the TV broadcast of the show, which is aimed at preschoolers. Apparently her cleavage was to blame.

Significant others? Russell Brand. She met the English comedian in September, 2009, at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Not to be confused with? Katy Brand (although obviously she soon will be).

She says? “Besides my big b**bs, it is probably my hourglass shape that is my best feature. I play off of that a lot.”

Interesting fact? She is reportedly voicing one of The Smurfs for a movie about the little blue folk out next year.

KATY PERRY plays the ECHO Arena on March 27, 2011. Call the ticketline 0844 800 3680.
