THE UK’s biggest deaf and disability arts festival launches in Liverpool next week.
Artists and performers from all over the world will arrive in the city for the two-week long DaDaFest International.
This year’s theme is “objects of curiosity and desire”, aiming to present art from a unique culture perspective to challenge and entertain audiences.
Garry Robson, DaDaFest artistic director, says: “This year we wanted to take DaDaFest to a whole new realm of creativity.
“Disabled and deaf people are not simply passive consumers of a tragic destiny but active participants in all areas of life, with a unique and valuable cultural perspective.”
Highlights include:
The UK premiere of Heidi Latsky’s GIMP, a dance performance by a group of disabled and non-disabled dancers from New York.
A sing-off between Last Choir Standing rivals The Belfast Open Arts Choir and Liverpool’s own Sense of Sound.
Mat Fraser, star of Channel 4’s Castaways, in a number of performances throughout the festival including The Freak and the Showgirl, right.
The screening of a short film, Odette and Odile, based on the ballet Swan Lake created by critically acclaimed Fourth Plinth artist Yinka Shonibare.
