Liverpool Sound City music festival celebrates birthday

INDIE rockers Sound of Guns have been announced as the first headliners for next year’s Liverpool Sound City festival.

Fresh from the success of their summer album, they will perform at George’s Hall as part of the three-day music event.

The festival, which will run from May 19-21, 2011, will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of cult magazine Mersey Beat. A special birthday edition of the publication will be released, while founding editor Bill Harry will take part in a debate looking at the state of today’s music media as part of the Sound City business conference.

Launched in the early 60s, the music magazine has become a collectors’ item, with issue 13 recently selling for £25,000 at auction.

Sound City wristbands are now on sale for £25, giving access to more than 300 bands over three days.

Full delegate passes are £99.
