VOCAL group Mediaeval Baebes will visit Liverpool’s Metropolitan Cathedral on Saturday to perform one of 14 live shows in theatres and religious buildings across the UK during the run up to Christmas.
Formed in 1996, the songwriters, multi-instrumentalists and vocalists sets Mediaeval texts to original scores.
They play a range of classical and mediaeval musical instruments, whilst singing in an array of long forgotten languages.
Katharine Blake, Emily Ovenden, Esther Dee, Bev Lee Harling, Melpomeni and Sarah Kayte Foster are accompanied live by an additional four musicians.
In their 12-year career, the Mediaeval Baebes have performed all over the world and have sold almost half a million records.
Their albums have consistently reached the top of the UK classical music charts, while their contribution to the BBC production of The Virgin Queen in 2007 resulted in an Ivor Novello award for best television soundtrack.
The band is currently working with creative director Micha Bergese (Jeff Wayne’s War Of The Worlds, Shaolin Wheel Of Life, Millennium show at The Dome) to create a new theatrical spectacular for 2011.
THE Mediaeval Baebes play the Metropolitan Cathedral’s Crypt Concert Room on Saturday.
