Liverpool’s Write Now Festival of one-act plays announced line-up for 2011

CHRISTMAS Day may only just be over but the team behind Liverpool’s Write Now Festival 2011 is planning ahead with a bigger event for Easter.

After a successful inaugural event last March, the one-act play Festival, run by Ian Moore and Pauline Daniels, will be moved to April 15-23 at the Actors’ Studio, Seel Street.

“2010 was a huge success and Easter 2011 will see the festival premiere eight new one-act plays, each receiving four performances, and hoping to build on the astonishing achievement of last year,” says Moore.

“We’ve got something for everyone with comedy, drama, farce, historical pieces and something for the kids in a great season of new writing.”

Liverpool playwrights are well represented in Write Now 2011 with Craig Brennan’s exploration of the contrasts between events on the Kop at Anfield and the Boer War event of the same name in The Place Where We Stand, Spion Kop.

Excess Baggage by David P Griffiths is a farcical comedy set in John Lennon Airport where newly-weds are asked to look after an old man’s suitcase with comic results.

Finally, Huyton-born Stephanie Blakeborough has created an unconventional rom-com Mrs Bojangles, about a retired showgirl who takes on the role of matchmaker.

Daniels adds: "It's great that writers will get the chance to showcase their work ."
