No Wise Men
FOR his next trick, Jon Bausor will explode an aeroplane live on stage.
The real 100-seater aircraft will appear to be carrying a group of school boys, who will miraculously wash up safely on an island.
Unfortunately, to see this daring feat, you will have to travel to Regent’s Park open-air theatre, where the designer is creating the set for a new production of Lord of the Flies.
But do not despair because another of his spectacular stage sets is currently at a theatre near you – providing the backdrop to the show, No Wise Men, at the Liverpool Playhouse.
Bausor enjoyed close ties with the Everyman and Playhouse team in 2010 when he also designed the set for Ghost Stories and the touring show Kursk, set on board a British naval submarine.
In fact, it was his work with the spooky show, premiered at the Williamson Square venue last February, that led him to agree to take on the ambitious production No Wise Men, about a man who is desperately trying to get home on Christmas Day.
“I made a rod for my own back with that one because I came up with this idea of a three-dimensional Advent calendar, which in my head sounded like a fantastic idea and I knew the crew could cope with that sort of set because we did it in Ghost Stories,” he explains.
