JAZZ musician Courtney Pine is among a host of celebrated performers signed up to play at Liverpool’s newest performance venue this spring.

The London-born multi-instrumentalist is bringing his sextet to The Capstone, Hope University’s theatre, as part of a well varied season of music and theatre.

Liverpool-born folk singer Kathryn Williams, whose second album was nominated for a Mercury Prize, will also play at the Shaw Street venue, as well as BBC Folk Awards winner Martin Simpson.

Prof Bill Chambers, provost of Hope University’s Creative Campus, says: “We have aimed, and I think succeeded, in creating a programme of artistic events that includes both artists of international status alongside local stars.

“Jazz, folk and world music are key ingredients with some great headline acts, and these musical performances sit alongside the staging of other events presented in partnership with a whole range of organisations in the North West.”

Collaborations include Kolectiv Theatre’s interpretation of Tennessee Williams’s The Glass Menagerie and The Orchard, a new version of Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard that will be partly performed outdoors.
