THERE is no sign of the man whose rambunctious appearance in Come Dine With Me last year sparked tabloid outrage.

Instead, Ken Morley is courteous and down-to-earth as he talks about his new role as the narrator in the stage play Corrie!.

He shares the role with Gaynor Faye, who is opening the show’s regional tour in Cambridge before he takes over for its Liverpool Empire run later this month.

“I was a bit cynical about it, to be honest,” says the 68-year-old actor, who spent more than five years as slimey ladies man Reg Holdsworth.

“I didn’t think six people could cover 50 years of broadcasting, but it’s been a bit of a revelation, really.”

The comedy is created by Liverpool-born Jonathan Harvey, a Coronation Street scriptwriter and the man behind TV comedy Gimme Gimme Gimme and epic play Canary, which premiered at the Playhouse last year.

Corrie! takes the audience through the soap’s history at lightning pace, with just six actors playing all the roles.

“It’s an absolute knock- out,” says Morley.
