A STRING of well- known acts have been announced for this year’s Southport International Jazz Festival.
The popular annual showpiece runs from May 26-29 and will see big names such as Clare Teal, Jay Phelps and the Tubby Hayes Legacy Orchestra head to the seaside resort.
A popular presenter on BBC Radio Two, Clare Teal came to prominence following air play on Michael Parkinson’s show, and was soon signed by Sony Records in what was the biggest recording deal by any British jazz singer. Clare recently released her tenth album, Hey Ho, and she will appear at the famous Prince of Wales Hotel, Lord Street, on May 27.
Cabinet member for leisure and tourism, Cllr Mike Booth, said: “What is great about the festival is that many of the events are free with performances taking place right across the town at different venues.”
