Francis Bacon inspires Leap Into Hope dance event at Capstone Theatre, Liverpool

FIGURATIVE painter Francis Bacon provides the inspiration for one of three contrasting pieces of dance being presented at The Capstone Theatre tomorrow.

Choreographer Gary Clarke and acclaimed performer Gavin Coward have come together to create Bagofti, a dark and captivating world of beauty and the grotesque.

A one-man show that delves deep into the bold, austere and highly expressive nature of Bacon’s art works, it is described as part dance, part sculpture.

Also on the Leap Into Hope programme, organised by Merseyside Dance Initiative, is a double bill by four-female company Taciturn.

Grapple, an intense, physical work with a pounding soundtrack choreographed by Lisi Peri, will be accompanied by the group’s self-choreographed piece Hang Up your Coat and Stay a While, a funny and touching piece embracing the unique dynamics of the company’s friendships.

Established in 1993, Merseyside Dance Initiative is a LIverpool-based dance development agency aiming to inspire people to take part, create and see dance by working in partnership with artists and venues.

LEAP Into Hope is at the Capstone Theatre, Shaw Street, Liverpool tomorrow. Tickets priced £8 (£6 concs) and further details on 0151 709 3789.
