Laurence Payot invites Liverpool residents to be part of Coincidence Project performance art

FRENCH artist Laurence Payot is inviting Liverpool residents to take part in a 14-day piece of performance art.

From May 23 and June 5, hundreds of people living and working in the Picton area of the city – including parts of Wavertree, Edge Hill, Toxteth, and Kensington – will receive a daily text message containing a simple action to be performed as part of their everyday lives.

The activities, suggested by local groups, will create discreet coincidences within Picton’s daily routine.

Around 300 people have already signed up to the Coincidence project, which aims to question and reimagine the way we behave on our streets on a daily basis. A meeting for people interested in taking part is being held at Metal arts centre, Edge Hill Station, from 6-7.30pm tomorrow.

They will have the chance to hear about the ideas behind the event, and also make suggestions for actions that they would like to see happen on the Picton streets.

Participants’ experiences will be gathered on a blog, through diaries and interviews, and will be documented in a short film.

There will also be an exhibition at Metal.

To take part, email coincidenceproject@gmail.com or text Coincidence to 07794 577 175.
