Old favourites Nearly Moonlit Night Motel, Cocktails at 8, Knock Knock Knocking, Capaldi’s Cafe and Where’s the Weekend? – finished off with a Dick Dastardly laugh from Cadillac – were all on the bill, as well as Golden Showers, which they hadn’t performed for 30 years.
Lead singers Cadillac and Bette Bright (aka Mrs Suggs), all shimmying and shimmering in a glittery fringed dress, had more chemistry than the periodic table – whether cosying up around a single microphone while Steve “Average” Lindsey took the lead on Darling, or dancing conga-like behind saxophonist Ian Ritchie.
A standing ovation won the audience a three-song encore, opening with Goodbye To All That, incorporating a breathy few lines from Ferry Across The Mersey, then Thunder & Lightning and finishing on Bright’s solo Final Act.
In the words of one of their most famous songs: What a way to end it all.
