Liverpool actor and presenter, Craig Charles outside the Rovers Return in Coronation Street _240
CRAIG CHARLES was found as a baby under the pool table of the Aigburth Arms.
Hang on, no he wasn’t – that was his Red Dwarf character Lister.
Okay then, Craig Charles lives in a flat with a single mum, her kid and her ex-husband who’s having treatment for cancer. No, that’s Lloyd Mulaney, the cabby he plays in Coronation Street.
Right, so did he once co-present a live seance on the BBC that ended horribly with Blue Peter’s Sarah Greene trapped in a cupboard and her husband Mike Smith going a bit hysterical on air?
Nope. That wasn’t real either.
Yet for someone who never intended to go into acting, he’s enjoyed a stream of roles on cult shows.
“I didn’t really see acting as a career path, but I’m so glad I did it because it’s given my career some legs, especially being in something like Corrie, which I’ll hopefully be in for a lot longer,” says the 47-year-old Liverpool-born Coronation Street star.
He’ll be having another stab at the space-hopping slob next year when Red Dwarf returns with a new, 25th anniversary series. It will mean he has been playing Lister on-and-off for half his lifetime.
