Why Paddy McGuinness is always at home in Liverpool

HE MAY be an adopted Scouser these days, but don’t expect to see any of his in-laws at his Echo Arena show next month.

“Oh, no, family aren’t allowed,” explains Paddy McGuiness, 38. “I get too nervous if they come to watch.

"Plus, something always goes wrong. I’ll be just about to go on stage and they’ll send me a text saying ‘the box office won’t give us our tickets, will you come down and sort it out?’. Oh, no, I’ve learned over the years.

"No family. If they want to see the show, I’ll recreate it in our kitchen and they can watch it over a cup of tea.”

Paddy has always had strong links with Liverpool (“I always used to be over to see my mates – John Bishop, Neil Fitzmaurice, John Barnes, there’s loads,” he says) but this summer he cemented his links to Merseyside when he married Christine Martin, a former Miss Liverpool, at Thornton Manor.

Paddy and Christine met at the 2008 Liverpool International Tennis Tournament and he proposed on Christmas Day, 2009.

“It was a beautiful day,” he says. “We wanted somewhere private, and that was perfect for us.

"The weather was gorgeous, all our friends and family were there. I’m a very lucky man.”
